The countries that UK electricians would most like to work in

Have you ever considered moving abroad to work? Has the pandemic affected your thinking at all? Our recent research found that more than three in five (62%) UK electricians are now more likely to move overseas than they were pre-Coronavirus, with the last few years encouraging workers to explore new opportunities.

Better weather, wages and training are amongst the top motivations, but many simply fancy an adventure or a change in lifestyle.

But where are these electricians looking to move to?

We’ve analysed Google search data from the last few years to reveal which countries are attracting the most interest from UK electricians, based on enquiries for jobs in each destination.

On average, Brits search for electrical jobs abroad 18,290 times a year and Australia tops the list as the most desired location, representing almost a fifth (18%) of all searches.

This is perhaps unsurprising, considering that the average electrician wage in Australia is £47,691, which is more than £15,000 greater than the amount in the UK (£32,540). This is an increase of 47%.

It appears that electricians are keen to explore all corners of the globe, with three of the top five destinations involving hefty long-haul flights.

Our research found that almost a third (31%) of workers are actively planning to move abroad and a similar number (35%) already know someone who has made the move.

Electricians in the South West of England are most likely to be plotting a change, with more than two in five (42%) already making plans.
