Our latest research found that the average electrician shops for over two and a half hours every week, which adds up to at least 10 hours a month, and upwards of 125 hours a year – the equivalent of five whole days!
Time spent shopping is time spent not working, and over half (51%) of our survey respondents said that they resent having to step away from jobs for such a reason.
This isn’t surprising considering the amount of extra money they could possibly earn if they were able to use this time to serve clients or the extra hours they could claim back to be with their families or friends.
But just how much money are electricians potentially missing out on by shopping in-person at stores, instead of saving time and shopping online?
Using an average hourly rate of £47.50, we’ve done the calculations below.

Besides carpenters, electricians spend longer shopping for work-related goods than any other trade professionals.
The average across all trades is around two hours and twenty minutes, but some spend as little as two hours.
